Software is developed through collaboration between the Development Department and the Quality Assurance Department
――Please tell us the details of your job.
I am engaged in the development of modules for preparing printed forms with Super Visual Formade or SVF in the Development Department. I also give technical advice in response to customers' inquiries sent through the sales company.
I am engaged in the development of a product named Report Director Enterprise or RDE in the Development Department. RDE is server software that integrates and centralizes the operations of separate business form systems built on a business-by-business basis.
As a member of the Quality Assurance Department, I receive coded data or software from the Development Department and check the quality by comparing it against evaluation items. If a bug is found, I return it to the Development Department for correction. My job is to eliminate problems from products before shipment.
We need to work from the perspective of both users and developers to keep a balance. This requires difficult adjustment.
Schedule management or coordination is also difficult. Usually, we are working on several projects, such as new projects and the addition of new functions, at the same time. So we have to keep our priorities straight. Products cannot be shipped until their quality is checked.
Indeed, a proper sense of balance or coordination requires skill. However, since we have an atmosphere where employees can freely consult with each other at anytime, we can often complement each other in technical aspects or in the progress of projects. This is a wonderful thing about FIT.
SVF continues to evolve based on accumulated technologies
――What is the appeal of SVF for engineers?
I had used SVF in my previous job. I have used several types of business form preparation tools, and SVF allows me to do exactly what I want to do. That impressed me. It allows me to design business forms flexibly and easily. It was on this point that I felt SVF stands head and shoulders above the rest.
I had the same experience. I was engaged in development in a sales company before coming to FIT. When I used SVF for the first time there, I was really impressed. It allows me to do exactly what I want in a very short amount of time. If you get used to it, it takes you only a few hours to create what took many weeks to create before.
I had not used SVF until I came to FIT. I was able prepare business forms from scratch smoothly and easily. I got the feeling that this was the result of many years of enhancement in response to users' needs and that these efforts made SVF what it is today.
SVF is easy to use and saves a lot of time. This is the appeal of SVF. It also provides a variety of functions. Every time it is upgraded, new functions are added. Customers should also appreciate SVF in that it provides exactly what they need. I am impressed by SVF as a developer since it gives me the real pleasure of development.
I can always step up to new challenges
――Do you get a sense of responsibility and satisfaction from your job?
SVF occupies a very important place in business activities. I keep this point in mind as I engage in development. Since I am partially responsible for the product, I am especially pleased when I hear that customers are satisfied with it. I am also glad when I see business forms prepared with SVF.
Requests from customers sent through support mail often make us realize what we have overlooked. We may sometimes come up with ideas from such requests. I can always step up to new challenges. The job gives me a sense of satisfaction. I sometimes encounter difficulties, but the appeal and joy of the job outweighs such difficulties.
As a member of the Quality Assurance Department, I feel a sense of responsibility and mission to eliminate bugs by all means. This makes my job challenging. For example, a bug found in the Quality Assurance Department may cause the software specifications to be changed. In such cases, I realize that I am creating software in collaboration with the Development Department.
That's right. We rely on the Quality Assurance Department because they are the "last bastion.”
I want to incorporate my ideas into products.
――Please tell us the corporate culture or human relationships and your dreams in the future.
One characteristic of our company is that there are not high barriers between different ages or job classes. Actually, we talk or consult with the president on a daily basis. This is unusual.
That's right. FIT adopts the stance that employees should offer their frank opinions. Our opinions are listened to directly and sometimes reflected.
In that sense, FIT provides an environment that encourages us to accomplish what we are trying to do. On the other hand, those with no purpose may feel out of place. FIT is a perfect environment for those with a goal or purpose.
In the future, I would like to actively propose more new ideas than before and incorporate them into new versions.
To answer from the perspective of the Quality Assurance Department, I would like to ensure quality as high as possible before shipment as software functions are increasingly advanced. I believe there is room for further improvement.
My goal or dream in the future is to incorporate as many ideas as possible into products in which I am involved as a developer. FIT offers opportunities for us to cast good ideas into shape.
